WARWICK, September 10. – Dennis Eagle, the UK’s industry leader in the design and manufacture of refuse collection vehicles (RCVs), today launched a new initiative as part of its popular sustainable schools programme at RWM. The ‘Eat Now’ strip, produced in partnership with Skips Educational, is an FSC-certified recyclable divider which can be placed on a fridge shelf to create a clearly visible ‘use first’ zone for food that needs attention.

Prompted by the urgent need to reduce food waste within the UK, the Eat Now strip gives households a visible prompt to help identify and prioritise food approaching best before or expiry dates in an attempt to minimise wastage. The strip is available alongside a virtual AI assistant which, when prompted via a QR code, offers recipe ideas, freezing advice, and food-saving tips based on the ingredients specified by the user.

The initiative’s main objective is to help residents across the UK realise important food waste and monetary savings, all while protecting the environment. The strips will be made available for Dennis Eagle’s local authority and private contractor customers to purchase, with the aim of promoting more sustainable waste practices within UK households. Eat Now has also been developed to give organisations greater insight into the effectiveness of their household food waste campaigns. The data-driven platform accompanying the strip itself is able to provide measurable results that demonstrate the strip’s impact, offering estimated food portion, water, and even CO2 savings.

“The Eat Now strip is the latest innovation introduced under our sustainable schools initiative, alongside our already successful Dennis to the Rescue mobile classroom and Dennis Explains educational resources programmes,” said Lee Rowland, Sales and Marketing Manager, Dennis Eagle. “It is a simple, comprehensive way of helping people better manage their food waste at home by inspiring behavioural change. With recent Simpler Recycling legislation shaping food waste collections across the country, it felt like the perfect time to put the Eat Now strip in the hands of our customers.”

Eat Now campaigns can be customised with partner branding, dedicated campaign web pages, and unique QR codes, enabling organisations to deliver the initiative within the communities they serve.

“While Eat Now has been kept deliberately simple for the household, there is much more to it than just a fridge divider,” said Ash Sharma, Author and Founder, Skips Educational. “The strip creates a visible, behaviour-change prompt to highlight food that needs using first, while the Food Saver AI Assistant offers practical help at exactly the point someone needs it. For organisations delivering food waste campaigns, the digital element also gives us an opportunity to understand and track engagement, seeing in real-time the difference the campaign is making.”
