When DUNLOP was confirmed in June as the first presenting partner in Goodwood Revival history, it marked a return to the circuit that the tyre company supported in the track’s founding year.
Older than even Formula 1, much has changed in the wider motorsport world since 1948, but the Goodwood Revival famously bucks this trend as arguably the planet’s most famous historic racing event.
Drawing on Elan’s experience of the UK classic car and motorsport landscape to identify targets and pitch to media, Nick, Bill and Tom then joined the thousands of attendees in period-correct attire – honouring the original lifespan of the Goodwood Motor Circuit from 1948-1966.
The tricky task of sourcing two different Porsche 911s was another welcome challenge, but one that resulted in a gleaming classic blue coupe on track for Thursday’s filming, and a Carrera Cup on the DUNLOP tennis court throughout the rest of the event.
The team was on site to host invited journalists and content creators, build their schedules around the racing, get them to the right places at the right times and ensure DUNLOP spokespeople were briefed ahead of each opportunity. Looking after a broad span of key titles, from PA to Daily Sportscar and the BBC, not to mention a host of influencers, has seen coverage for the event on BBC radio, industry titles and prolific Instagram accounts.
DUNLOP’s main presence was centred on a 600 square metre exhibition stand in ‘Earls Court’, a shrunken recreation of the famous home of the London Motor Show. The stand united the three Ford GT40s from the legendary finish of the 1966 24 Hours of Le Mans, making it a great media attraction and location to host interviews.
Going above and beyond with preparation was essential to succeed – from bringing a spare tie, to using What3Words to pinpoint exact rendezvous locations and printing off numerous backup documents – when the colourful crowds and classic cars pile in, the planning really pays off.
It was Tom and Bill’s first Revival and Nick’s eighth, but regardless of how many times you walk through the gates, the weekend never fails to surprise and delight.
